Laura Rimell

I am a Research Scientist in the Language team at DeepMind in London. Previously I was a Senior Research Associate in the Natural Language and Information Processing Group at the Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Cambridge, and a Research Assistant at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford.

I hold a PhD in Linguistics from New York University, where my supervisors were Anna Szabolcsi and Alec Marantz. My thesis can be found here and is about some surprising limits on the propensity to turn nouns into verbs in English.

My interests are in linguistically and cognitively motivated approaches to Natural Language Processing. I have worked on a number of topics including compositional distributional semantics, lexical relations, parser evaluation, and subcategorization frame acquisition.
